Ramen Music is Live. Submissions wanted.

Ramen Music

After months of hard work, I'm excited to say Ramen Music has launched today and is ready for the world. This has been a dream of mine for over 6 years.

I could explain everything here, but instead I'll just let you go check it out:

http://ramenmusic.com

We're currently accepting track submissions. We pay out a flat $125 per accepted track. The first Issue launches in September. I would be honored to have any and all alonetoners submit!

The quality of music here at alonetone is the #1 reason why I decided to move forward and start Ramen Music. alonetone has blown me away and convinced me we can do this.

Also, Subscriptions to Ramen Music are open, with a special "Investor" plan available for a limited time (gives you a lifelong subscription in return for you helping to kick-start the project). If you've ever wanted to give back to alonetone, this is your chance. The more subscribers that sign up, the more we can pay artists. Spread the word!

Enjoy and thanks for your support and music,

Sudara

Ps: Meanwhile in alonetone news: We're working on redoing the anti-spam system. You might have noticed some comments take forever to go through. It's because of our anti-spam partner, so we're looking at ways to make this problem go away.

Very excited for this. A happy subscriber and submitter, here (although I hope that's not misunderstood as a conflict of interest, or, worse yet, a bribe!)

@Rob and Laura

Thanks! Submission sounds great, really happy you submitted.

And no bribes/conflicts perceived! It's actually fairly tough, as I have friends/family that may be submitting too. At the end of the day, it just comes down to the music and what works!

Thanks everyone who submitted so far!

Just a note, we're especially interested in instrumentals and electronic stuff, which we've basically received 0 of so far. If you are doing singery-songwritery stuff, that's cool too, there is still room.

2 weeks to go if you want to make it in Issue #01...

Thanks!

Argh, I just found this blog post (via Twitter). Am I too late? Would love to have submitted an instrumental track.

Anyway, good luck with Ramen Music!

New Server up. Donations now welcome!

Hi there!

A lot of things have changed for me personally in the last weeks (I moved to Vienna, quit my full time job, made friends with an imaginary hamster....) - so of course something changed with alonetone too: We're now on new servers. There was a glitch for a few days with some email being sent out to larger US ISPs, so if you had any email problems from alonetone, blame me! (I'm sorry!)

In response to popular request (as well as increased costs, as our servers are no longer free) we are now accepting donations.

Rather than explain it here, I'll let you pop over to the new donate page:

http://alonetone.com/about/donate

In other news, the no-longer-so-secret project is moving along nicely and hopefully I'll have something launched and to show everyone shortly. You can follow @ramenmusic on twitter if you are interested in this new project.

That's it! Now that I'm back to consulting, I have much more time to work on alonetone and build out Ramen Music, so look forward to some new paint and bells and whistles shortly.

Thanks,

Sudara

I'm flying the idea to have alonetone artists record an exclusive track for a compilation - and I'll collect the tunes and email the mp3 album to anyone who donates, like $10 to alonetone (just send me a copy of the receipt).

Anyone interested please email me at happypuppyrecords@yahoo.com ...thanks!

The answer is YES.

RPM, Reichatron and a 24-hour challenge?

- posted by Sudara on 24 Feb 00:34 - 14 comments -

Howdy!

Here's some alonetone news:

1) For those out of the loop, the "Record Production Month Challenge" is currently in full swing. Many alonetoners participate in this beast, the premise being to record 10 songs or 35 min of music in the month of Feb.

Oh, and be sure to Check out the tasty results from last year there was a serious amount of new music made.

Can't wait to hear what's new this year guys!

2) Friend and alonetoner sandbags toiled for weeks to create an amazing instrument for Reaktor called "Reichatron." Though you need Reaktor to take full advantage of the instrument, you can also download the Reaktor demo to play around with it.

Reich would be proud

Reichatron is a very advanced and nimble virtual instrument that has it's heart rooted in a simple concept - phase shifting ala "It's Gonna Rain," Steve Reich's landmark minimalist work from 1965. Load up a sample, specify a delay and listen to the sweet sound. And then go an an aural adventure tweaking and manipulating to your heart's content.

Reichatron can be downloaded for free from the Kontakt Instrument User Library, comes with a great user guide and most importantly contains a whopping half a gig of samples from fellow alonetoners.

3) Step right up for the 24 hour album! Everyone is welcome.

That's right, some of us are in the mood to do a 24 hour album/EP again. We're thinking March. Drop a note in the comments here if you are up for it, and let us know what dates. We're thinking we'd do the same thing as last time, pick two consecutive weekends to give folks 2 dates to pick from.

And yes, the 24 hour album is like the RPM challenge, except:

a) You have to create at least 24 minutes of recorded music in 24 hours.
b) You can do no preparation beforehand, so no song-writing or recording.

This will be my 3rd go at it and I'm looking forward to the insights, the barrier breaking, the delirium, and of course, the music. It's amazing what folks can do in such a short amount of time.

That's it for now. Good luck to those finishing up your albums and thanks everyone for hanging out and sharing your music on our little corner of the the internets.

AMUC

Being the OCDer that I am, I would do a 24 hour album challenge in March.

However, with the RPM Challenge in February, I'm not sure how much I would have left in the proverbial tank.

If I do do it, I want to do something different from what I've been doing. Some sort of collaborative 24 hour challenge would be cool. (Pair up musicians with completely opposing styles to see what the end result would be.)

Hi there!

Inspired by a handful of crazy alonetoners who decided to home-brew their own alonetone t-shirts (you know who you are!)...

...the official-as-it-is-going-to-get alonetone store:

I was going to try and hold out on announcing it until my first order arrived and I could guarantee that everything was in order, that the product was sweet, etc....but...I want to give the non-USA alonetoners a chance to order some goods before christmas (still waiting on my order, as shipping to EU/UK and other places takes a good week.)

As mentioned on the store: all prices are at cost. Some of the t-shirts are rather expensive, in my opinion, but this is at cost, and supposedly the quality is decent. Also: Have a better design/idea for a shirt? I'm all ears (eyes?)

PRIZES FROM THE 10K:

Each of those awesome individuals who cooked up playlists and/or cover tunes for the 10k celebration - Thank you! You guys each get an alonetone shirt (or cup if you like!) on me. Email me your physical address to sudara@alonetone.com and tell me which item you want!

10K Playlists:

Bethan Celebrates 10k

Last but not least, montgomeru recorded an amazing rendition of Finuto by Benjamin Wuamett, one of the very first tracks to be uploaded to alonetone. (I think actually the 2nd song to be uploaded that wasn't my own track!). Check it out:

OTHER NEWS:

I'm still working on a big update to speed up a bunch of the pages. It is going to be awesome fast when I'm done. I've pushed out a bunch of small fixes over the last week to the forums, and improved the spam-catching filters (it was catching too many valid comments). As always, leave feedback on the forums or email me if something is bugging you.

Enjoy!
