Nightness

Uncle

The stars leaned down to whisper
and fell out of the sky.
And darkness streaked with wonder
now pours into my eyes.

And though the night is warm,
cold waters move to fill
dark pools in rocky shorelines.
The sea is black and still.

So now I stand and wonder
through long and endless night,
with undiminished vision
and much diminished sight.

Rains of light,
rains of light,
I walk eternal night.
