Alonetone Features: 24 hour album 2008
24 hour album 2008
written by Sudara
Write, record, mix and upload 24 minutes of music in 24 hours without any planning or preparation.
Anyone who makes music (yes, absolutely anyone who can make a sound and record it) is invited to join us. Spread the word if you know other crazy musician types who might like to join us, there is still time to do an ad-hoc album.
The rules for the album are simple:
Without any preparation or preplanning, get (hopefully) 24 minutes down on tape within a 24 hour period. Post it to alonetone, even if you hate the results (trust me, after braving 24 hours you will NOT want to do this, but committing to sharing the results is essential!)
Although December 6th and December 13th were the officially sanctioned days of group-24-hour-music-making there is nothing stopping you from going for it.
In fact, we'll list you on the 24 hour album page if you go sometime in December or January.

is this gonna happen again anytime soon?
I am in the middle of RPM 2009 and really want to do a 24hr challenge now!! :-)
i dig
Well I struggled with equipment for 24 hrs on 13th/14th but I made some progress. So after much hesitation here it is. http://www.alonetone.com/childho...
there's also http://alonetone.com/gliftor/pla..., although it's more like 15 minutes and not much like music...
I like the 24h album page. Direct link from the home page?
What no more takers?
I like Sudara's track - there are spots where I was kind of improvising lyrics as I listened. The melodies are nice.
Rewind: Yikes! Didn't catch you. You are added and will show up shortly!
Hey Sudara - you didn't add me to the 24h page. Is it intentional since I was late?
Here's an initial listing of all albums, hopefully I didn't miss anyone!
Well, better late than never. Here's mine: http://alonetone.com/rewind/play... I think I only worked on it 24 hours, though in the end I could do it all in one block.
Congrats to all the folks who did this! I'm amazed by the turnout, the variety and the fact that folks are consistently meeting the 24min goal - cheers to all of y'all!
Ok here it is in al it's insanity - http://alonetone.com/jeffarcher/...
Ok here is the link to "Time/Space" - http://alonetone.com/jeffarcher/...
24 lives to die... 24 hours and one reason to stay. 24 minuts to fly. congratulations to everyone... was a hard and funny day :)
As we're posting here until Sud gets his secret page up and running: http://alonetone.com/sidedown/pl...
Don't forget: Folks who wanna stay connected for this 24 hour run should come chat in the alonetone chat room
Let's get it on! Can't wait, nervous as heck, gotta stop thinking about all these 'good ideas' and just go with the flow.
Kavin, man, I wish I could get me some of that pedal steel, that thing just sounds straight purty.
Ok let's go. Sometimes I need something like this to kick me out of the same old verse/chorus thing. Try to do this without guitar. Maybe some pedal steel, but only because it's not my main instrument. I be starting around 9am CST. I hope Mrs. Nussbaum and Osborne & Hutchison can go too.
Plans have been well and truly scuppered for tomorrow. Am going to have to take a rain check on the ol'24 ting this time. Sorry chaps
Master Glu, and friends from ACL. We can do something like a "new year album". just with one track by alonetoner... to begin 2009 with the right feet. I´m in the 13th, just waiting with my mind in blank haha.
I just posted three tracks made during the time of the first 24hr album. I had to participate with everyone somehow. I'm going for the 17th for the full 24- starting from scratch, but I will most certainly give it another go with ACL and other brave souls come 2009
@Sidedown Yup, there will be a master list shortly. For now, they are all posted in the comments
@Glu and @ACL:
Hey, I'm not the boss. If you guys wanna go for it post-13th, you definitely should! The two dates were to gather folks together and because it's more fun and supportive to do it together. But heck, lemme bust out the clichés: the more the merrier and better late than never.
Been listeing to these all morning. Very good work everyone. There are some I cannot believe were conceived and executed ion just 24hours (I single out Brando in particular, but he was not alone.)
Actually, what master Glu said has us intrigued... could we create a Better Late Than Never 24 Hr Album date for folks like him - and, ummm, us? We wanted to this, but since we're stuck in a totally disassembly of living & studio space until after Jan 1... sniff, sniff...
Is there a master list of links to the completed 24-hour challenge products other than this comment board? If not, can there be one?
Can we get an easy directory to finished 24-hour products? Rooting through comments isn't the easiest way, especially as the list grows...
I'm I'm missing an easy-access list that already exists, I apologize and ask that you direct me to it!
Oh! We'd like to second that motion by GLU, that the 17th should be added for those that may have missed the chance...if only to hear what the brilliant GLU will do..!
Bump me off of December 13. With grad school apps and finals all hitting at the 15th, 16th, I am doomed if I invest 24hrs on anything but schoolwork. So I want the 17th... anyone want to join me?
Been listening to these on and off all day, what a feast for the ears. You all have certainly raised the bar for the second round. Good God.
Oh, we're supposed to post it here? Okay..
AMUC - "Oh Crap" EP.. (I liked the fact the 'Oh' sounded seasonal, and the crap sounded er, um -- rectal.)
http://alonetone.com/thecosmicmi...
Here is ours. This was a grueling task - hope its ok that we went over the prescribed 24 minutes...
This time, The Cosmic Microwave is comprised of Jason aka Diegesis Freak and Bruce aka Novachild.
Eventually we will likely begin producing material as a threesome (kinky, eh?) but scheduling didn't allow this time to be that time...or that to be thi--or, er. OMG I'm tired.
Hope you like it :)

Here's mine:

This is, I think, the first time I haven't wanted to be on the home page :)
It was fun (well bits of it were) and I enjoyed chatting with my fellow fools.
The title is a reference to Steve Jobs Stanford Address where he admonishes us to "Stay foolish" and that's what I've done.
Looking forward to hearing everyone else's efforts after sleep....
M.
Where do we hear these? If they're just being uploaded as normal, can everyone mark them "24 hour project" or something? Just saying. :-) Tess
Yeah - I'm using a computer, which lets you generate crappy results much faster.
i have a question for all you 24hour albumers: Are you guys doing all recording on your computers? I was considering doing the 13th, but after last night, I don't know. I work on an old (1996?) 8 track and it took me about 2 & 1/2 hours to put in about 30 seconds worth of samples. And I'm not even 100% happy with it. Good luck to all of you, awaiting the results!
Good luck folks! Everyone (even folks not writing music) are welcome to drop by the 24 hour album chat room
Good luck and best fishes to all you 24 hour maniacs. I can't wait to hear what comes up. I think I'm a long shot for the 13th, but don't put me on any list!
Good luck to all you guys starting your albums tomorrow! Remember to let it all come out, don't worry so much about the result. I wish I was going tomorrow to kick it off with you guys but i'll be working the whole day, excitedly watching alonetone :)
I'll be posting a link to a chat room so folks can connect up with each other tomorrow morning.
Osborne and Hutchison, ain't no harm in trying! I've got some songs I'd just love to finish up, but this is a special occasion, pulling us out of our normal routine. I think that is one of the big plusses for me... just seeing what happens in a chunk of time starting from nothing, exploring all corners of your creative spark...getting a new perspective...
Gulp! That is a challenge indeed. Very tempting, I'm thinking, I'm thinking...
Osborne and Hutchison, the rules indicate no preparation or preplanning, which means already written songs would not really count. I think this is one of the crazy aspects of the 24hr album- to write, make the music in such short time....
I think mr. e wanted to do the 24hr album, here is what he posted in the forum http://alonetone.com/forums/alon...
Damn! We wish we could do this (moving on both weekends)... but we WILL be cheering you guys on from the sidelines - and dying to hear what comes out... ;)
Is this like Macca and the fireman thing? write, play, record 24 minutes of brand new stuff? Can it be already written just not recorded yet?
I'll try for the 6th... if I can get anything to upload at all... Having a bit of trouble there!
Hey glu!
Yes, all 24 albums will be on the features page as well as collected in a playlist. I'm super excited now (kind of disappointed I'm not going on the 6th, but I'll be patient)
The 13th cannot arrive soon enough! How are playlists going to be linked? Could they be hosted on this page? Hmmm... It would be cool if they were located in a centralized place, or at least organized/linked in a central location.
I added AMUC on the 6th, moved arrsuarez and I to the 13th (we both have to work on the 6th, turns out) and added Anthony Sweet and hardrick to the 13th. Awesome!
Saturday is admittedly a sucky day for me, but I'll give it a try on 12/6.
I'm on-call for my job, so if that interferes, I'll try again the next Saturday.
If you think you might want to join us and you aren't on the list yet, post a comment so we can slap you in there. We'll set up a chatroom on these two days so we can connect each other and share our experiences / joy / exhaustion /pain :)
