Watch As We Come Unglued

2022 RPM Challenge song number 13.

I use GarageBand for all of my amateur recording needs. I use the MacOS version for recording real instruments and mixing and adding gobs of echoes and stuff. Sometimes I used the iOS version to kick off ideas. Usually I’ll have a file with 2-3 different 8 bar long bass riffs and an idea for drums. I’ll port that over to MacOS and do all of the rest of the work.

This might be the first time where I got an entire song without re-arranging anything. The iOS file had four 16 bar bass lines. When I moved over to Mac I decided I liked it exactly as it was. I took the first 8 bars of the first riff and tacked it onto the end (twice) but otherwise this is still that simple iOS file. The song form is ABCDA’. No melodies or riffs repeat, with the exception of the first half of the A section. I don’t know why but I am really pleased with my bad self over that.

The song is okay. As of right now I think it makes the final RPM Challenge album but it’s still early.

All of the guitar tracks are my Les Paul Standard through my Bassbreaker 15. The pedals for the rhythm tracks are an Earthquaker Devices The Depths into a Ryra The Klone into a Keeley D&M Drive. The leads used The Depths into a Klon KTR into a Wren and Cuff Super Russian (which did not invade Ukraine like that other asshole Russian did).

if you feel like you can’t take much more
if you just don’t know what you’re doing
if you don’t know what it’s all for

B
I’ve imagined this
now its happening
everything falls apart
like a tragedy

its the final round
watch things come unwound
no idea what it was for

deep seer
fully unhinged

as we
come unglued
