Wyvern Witch

Ugh, this one. Well, it’s not about Danaerys Targarean, even though the lyrics would strongly suggest it. No, in fact it’s one of two songs I’ve written where the anti-hero is a social pariah that gets bloody and brutal revenge on society. The wyvern witch, namely a witch that turns into a dragon was inspired by Morrigan from Dragonage. The second half of the song is about a beefy gladiator who mets said witch and forms a bond with her through their shared contempt for their oppressors (I was also watching Spartacus at the time). I was going for a full on prog sound though I also went to the Stone Roses gig the year I recorded it so I wanted jangly fender strat guitars, which you can hear in the verses. The flange guitars near the end were influenced by The Stranglers. There’s an Opethy vibe throughout, I added in a polymetrical section via Meshuggah. Oh yeah, the ooh yeah! bits were directly influenced by Reverend Bizarre’s Blood on Satan’s Claw.

Saved!
