That Same Conversation

Linda lies, listening, quiet as a mouse
She can hear their voices echoing all thru the house
She listens sadly as Mommy and Daddy
Are having That Same Conversation

I’ll take the Rambler. Leave you the Chevrolet
I’ll find a room that isn’t very far away
In case you may need me
Sometime you may need me
You and the children
Roger remember a time in the past
He could keep up with his thoughts
They didn’t run quite so fast
Tossing and turning, his bridges are burning
Enflamed by That Same Conversation
I’ll take the Rambler. Leave you the Chevrolet
I’ll find a room that isn’t very far away
In case you may need me
Sometime you may need me
You and the children
Tiny Doris is dreaming
Understands, not a word
But she is deeply affected
by what she has heard
Not understanding
What this life is demanding
Absorbing That Same Conversation

I’ll take the Rambler. Leave you the Chevrolet
I’ll find a room that isn’t very far away
In case you may need me
Sometime you may need me
You and the children

Well, it’s you as an infant
It’s me as a man
And if it’s true that we’re doing
The best that we can?
What does that mean
to the child that is hearing
The words to That Same Conversation?

Gary Ogan and Bill Lamb did this with me at Rex Studios in Portland in about 1975. I had returned for a few days after moving to Texas. Bill did that high whistle part on a new contraption called a Moog synthesizer. Eric Harnew came to Texas about 1985 and shot the video.

Saved!
