The dirty distorted audio of the Akai Rhythm Wolf makes a good accompaniment for the clean digital trickey of the Arturia Micro Freak.
Certainly experienced the famous Rhythm Wolf tuning problems this time but once the unit had warmed up I tuned it by ear to the Freak and the Rhythm Wolf tuning remained stable after that. Personally I like the slightly quirky tuning within the MIDI table, it makes for more subtle audio variation. Isn’t that why we have a detune function on a synth with multiple oscillators.
When running the audio through my soundcard and monitors some of the Rhythm Wolf’s noises were just too much to be recorded through the PA. Consequently I had to change the velocities of some of the snare hits and actually alter my beat to counter act the analogue mess coming through. Ultimately I had to reduce the Wolf Howl quite considerably in order to keep the definition of the drum beat. Those hats come through very messy with the snare and as many have said before, the on-board controls do not allow much control.
Have added a little reverb and removed a little off the low end but other than that the sound you hear is how it came out. You like?
