July 8- stormy Lake Michigan
Benstopfel
frozen trip around the lakes
We were passing through six states
But we couldn’t get Detroit
Out of our rear view
The trip that sealed our fate
Were both children out of place
Stormy Lake Michigan
Threw us for a loop
Family makes us crazy
Lakes effect the highway
Wiper blades will start to freeze
Before you know it You can’t see
May as well get out and push!
We can’t go back but we can look
I’ve pruned myself off the old tree
But I just got new family
Listened to John prine
tried to keep us both alive
I asked my pal to talk
about his folks
I was glad its werent too raw
in between the snow squalls
Missed the landmines
And we hoped
I’m not on a boat
And I’ll keep all my jokes
In my breast pocket In case I need em
I know we’ll float
When my brakes finally croak
And we wreck on the old lake this Evening
