ChordsandCaffeineRecords
Chords and Caffeine is an independent record label with deep roots and a long memory.
Founded in the mid-1960s as Green Tea Studios, the label began as a small but influential creative home for artists who valued craft, experimentation, and late-night sessions fueled by equal parts music and caffeine. In 2003, the label evolved—adopting the name Chords and Caffeine to reflect both its heritage and its forward momentum.
In 2018, a devastating fire destroyed nearly the entire archive. Master recordings, session tapes, and decades of history were lost. For years, it seemed the catalog was gone for good.
Recently, a small but meaningful portion of that legacy resurfaced.
The only recordings to survive were the cover albums paying tribute to Green Tea Studios, performed by the very first band the label ever signed in the 1960s: Lane Sullivan and the House Specials. Their debut record, After Closing Time, now stands not only as a musical release, but as a historical anchor—connecting the present-day label to its origins.
Lane Sullivan himself has remained a constant presence over the decades, contributing to and supporting numerous projects across eras, genres, and formats. His work embodies the spirit that Green Tea Studios was founded on—and that Chords and Caffeine continues to carry forward.
What remains is not everything. But what remains matters.
