We were the perfect couple
We’d walk among the glen
You loved fields of flowers
We never thought it would end

Then the bloody war came
I had to sail far away
Then a letter came for me
I’ll never forget that day

It was a letter from your mother
She told me you had died
You’d given birth to our baby
And my heart broke inside

I sailed back to Ireland
For the first time held our child
She looks so much like you love
I think that she just smiled

When she gets a little older
I will take her to our glen
I bet she will love flowers
Tis like having you again
