Track five of my RPM 2026 project.
I made this track for the Record Every Month group’s Drone Orchestra for February after I had completed the four track EP I had planned, but since it seemed like such a good concluding track and would push the project past the threshold from EP to album, I decided to add it in.

I started out by crafting a new preset on the Minilogue xd that I called Eerie Drone. It’s two triangle oscillators in the same octave with a slight detune, an EG on pitch2 a slow LFO on pitch, so it has an interesting warbly quality. Then I turned on the Cathedral xd reverb effect and added a +Y control that could bring in some high noise. The Deluge drone is a nicely evolving one I made, and the Typhon provided the excellent Ambient factory preset. For the song itself I started by setting up a sequence of notes in the Deluge to control the Typhon, only using F, A, C, and D over a couple of octaves, with shorter durations due to how strong the delay effect is. With that as the backdrop, I played the Deluge and xd using two keyboards, live in one take. I recorded the midi sequences into the Deluge, but then in my sleep deprived state I shut it off for the night without saving (“Did I really just do that?” I asked myself). Thankfully I had recorded the audio into my mixer. You can hear the short segment that ended up in the final Drone Orchestra track (which turned out pretty cool) here:

I tried to capture some of the emotions I had felt over the previous couple of months, and I think it came through pretty well.
