Track one of my RPM (Record Production Month) 2026 project.
I started the project by digging through several DX7 preset sets on the Deluge to find some cool new sounds. In this one I ended up using a whistle, vox, bell, and pad, most of which I modified or augmented with a second oscillator. A slow delay on the bell became the driving element of the second half. The arrangement became too much for the Deluge to handle on its own, so I picked presets on the Minilogue xd and Typhon that would work well with it to share the load. To record the stems, I ran through the track multiple times so I could control the analog synths individually, then used the Deluge’s stem export feature for the rest. I decided to continue with that method for the rest of the tracks, sometimes switching presets multiple times for those two synths. They tend to work better for the brass or strings presets, or ones that are more effects heavy to take that CPU load. I also like using the xd’s joystick and the Typhon’s filter control potentiometers to make things more expressive. For the mix I imported the stems into Audacity, lined things up carefully since the mixer recording and Deluge exports weren’t synced up initially, added real-time effects, panning, leveling, and volume envelopes, then mixed-down, adjusted section volumes if needed, and applied final compression, delay, reverb, and loudness normalization.
