You’re Not There
2024©John Schofield
In silent nights on crumpled sheets
I touch your skin your silken hair
Hear you laugh in an empty room
See you sitting in your fav’rit chair
On sunny days in crowded streets
At the mall or the county fair
I feel your presence, catch your scent
But it’s someone else who’s standing there
Chorus
You’re like a phantom who lingers near
But when I reach out you disappear
I search for solace but find despair
Because I see you everywhere
But when I need you, you’re not there
I know it’s an illusion
My mind is playing games
In time I’ll learn to let you go
And maybe then I’ll love again
Chorus
You’re like a phantom who lingers near
But when I reach out you disappear
I search for solace but find despair
Because I see you everywhere
But when I need you, you’re not there
