I went to the Garden of Love,
And saw what I never had seen;
A solemn broken tree in the midst,
Where there used to be green.
I saw the garden was filled with graves,
and tombs where flowers should be;
(chorus)
And I was won over to you,
Everything - you said was true!
And I was won over to you…
The priest in black gowns
were walking their rounds,
They bound me with briars and thorns,
and gave me a bleeding crown!
(bridge)
The gates of the Chapel were shut,
And they said “Thou shalt not”
So I returned… to the Garden of Love!
(solo)
So I returned to the Garden of Love!
So I returned to the Garden of Love!
So I returned to the Garden of Love!
So I returned to the Garden of Love!
