Making Things

Finally, I reimagined the previous chords and arrangement to this and came up with something new. Inspired by a line from one of my favorite novels* and my bi-weekly activist/writer’s group (thanks to y’all for the prompts, support and conversations that set these lyrics in motion!)

*”There are one hundred thousand species of love, separately invented, each more ingenious than the last, and every one of them keeps making things. “
– The Overstory by Richard Powers
Out of the blue, the world was turned upon its head
suddenly it all went dark
Metallurgy, rare earth minerals and alchemy
and power made the spark
Then, over time, invention got away from us
and so we all went crazy
If all we can do is just burn the kingdom down
what of our sanctuary?
Hold me, I feel like I might fly away
Hold me, but if you ask me, I will stay
Out of the ruins of our shared humanity
emerging from the wild
Creating air, birthing ideas and planting seeds
with the promise of a child
So, dear brothers and sisters, come together now
weave a net to catch our children
Open your eyes and learn to fall in love again
with this whole world we live in
Hold on, we don’t have to move so fast
Hold on, we can make these things that will last and last and last…
(Oh, dear brothers and sisters, come together now, weave a net to catch our children)
