when a Mexican cowboy
come stepping up to me
he said how are you young fella
how would you like to go
and spend the season working
in the hills of Mexico
well having no employment
back to him I did say
tis according to your wages

he said I’ll pay you good wages
on a steamboat you will go
if you’ll spend the season working
in the hills of Mexico
well they sent along that old steam boat
and back to home did go
how those bells they were ringing
how those whistles they did blow
go on back friends and loved ones
and tell them not to go
to that godforsaken country
