This is based on the “Coastline Paradox” which is “the counterintuitive observation that a coastline’s measured length increases as the unit of measurement decreases. Due to the jagged, fractal-like nature of coastlines, smaller rulers capture more nooks, crannies, and irregularities, resulting in a theoretically infinite, non-definable length.”
