SEARCHING
What face is this
What hands are these
Always changing, never the same
All that’s mine is a name
In sixty short years nothing will remain
All closed up in a selfish box
That time never unlocks
Why must we be searching
Empty what-ifs break lives like an infant drowning
But we still have our dreams
Hazy fragments of fiction
I’m all alone when I sleep
So these thoughts are mine to keep
But they worry me
Always worried–check the time
Only worthwhile if you can plug it in somehow
What’s wrong with kids today
They listen well and we’ve shown them the way
It’s not hard at all to do
When your country’s running you
An etch-a-sketch
Erase my face
No need to recognize me if I’m a number in your campaign
Freedom of thought is here to stay
Just be quiet, so no one hears what you say
My heart is where I put my thoughts
But it’s money that talks
Emotions build up like the lies
It’s hard to live among the blind
Morals choke at our throats
Fling us to the flood and hope we float
My heart and mind need purging
But I just go on searching
Searching
I just go on searching
