A Cosmic Lear - a sonnet for 5 billion years hence

Upon the stage of cosmic tragedy,
When sun, once gentle, rages in its spree,
A red giant’s dance, a tempest’s cruel play,
Consumes the earth in its relentless sway.
No realm untouched by solar fury’s ire,
As embers of our world begin to tire.
King Lear, in heavens writ, this cosmic woe,
The sun, a monarch, in its fiery show.
The stars, like fools, do mock our fleeting fate,
As crimson flames engulf each kingdom’s gate.
No Cordelia to plead, no solace found,
In cosmic storm, the earth is duly crowned.
A cosmic Lear, a stage so vast and dire,
Where sun devours realms in burning fire.
