Actually I was listening to that famous waltz by Shostakovitch, and made this tune on the computer.

Zwischenphasen is the German word for traditional animated intermediate drawings. In English they're called "inbetweens". That title probably has nothing to do with the content of the song, which is an exercise in building up and tearing away…

I wanted to compose something like an old 70's TV show theme.

It's based on a true story. And in the structure I was hoping for enough variation to make it interesting.

Was trying to get the pulse and just enough lyrics going to drive this forward.

The double chase is a plot device used in some Hitchcock films. I was thinking of adventure movie music when I made this piece.

Wondered what a sugar molecule might look like. It looks like a horse, according to one illustration I saw. Anyhow I wanted to make a composition that might sound like it's being played by a trio.

Let's see, I put this one together in January of 2011, hence the title. I think I wanted the song to have some coolness, and a bit of drama.

I composed this piece thinking a lot about the 8th symphony of Shostakovich. And I was also thinking of the 5/4 time of Lalo Schifrin's Mission Impossible theme.

I composed this on the computer using Garageband. I wanted to play with layering tracks and creating a feeling of momentum.
