I hate when people use those phrases that are like premade Ikea furniture, for example: “you wake up… in the morning” (Great discovery! Please buddy, tell me something I don’t know…) So I thought breaking the cliche by waking up in the evening… This took me quickly to speak of the crazy situation I was living as a long term unemployed -no structure-, and the rest of the lyrics came quite easily.
Influences: a lot of Doors and Stones, I suppose. Also, a Neil Young song where the chorus goes ‘that’s life they say’. The final break is half Leonard Cohen’s ‘The Future’, half Queen’s ‘Dreamers’ Ball’ (Live Killers version - I cannot take that ye-yeah out of my head…). Also, I encountered the expression “pretty scary” for the first time in a Sebadoh song.
