In heaven you were waiting for the Lord our God
To find a soul for you to watch over and to guide and love
Patiently you waited trusting in His plan
God’s will, your only desire, so unlike man

The day came, the Lord beckoned, calling for you
Gladly you responded, so eager to do
Gracefully you descended from high above
A newborn baby boy to protect in your wings of love

The innocence, the wisdom of childhood, I believed in you
But slowly the world it lured me away as I grew
How soon you were forgotten, my angel from God
Free will put you behind me, rejecting your love

A fountain of tears you must have cried

Your saving grace all but denied

Through the storm the clouds parted and the sun shone through
Broken, lost and empty, Jesus took my hand
Smiling you stepped forward, an angel beside the man
