Catholic Boy
Paul Lisney
This is a demo of my latest song. I may keep it as the final or re-record it. I played the gutiar and sang it live and there is a mic pop/bump that is audible. i added the vocal harmony afterwards, of course. It’s about growing up Catholic as a boy in England.
CATHOLIC BOY
Oh I was a Catholic boy through and through
Baptized as a baby like my brothers and sister too
Mass every Sunday and we went to Catholic school
I was Roman Catholic and I thought the name was cool
Oh I was an altar boy at the church where we went to school
The Good Shepherd on Dunley Drive in New Addington
And we made an altar in our bedroom
And we practiced serving Mass as Catholic boys do
Yes I was a Catholic boy
A portrait of Jesus in our living room
And no matter where you were His eyes would follow you
And as I recall I always knew right from wrong
So when I strayed the guilt I felt was strong
Yes I was a Catholic boy
Mm mm mm mm mm mm
And we learnt our prayers
Confessed our sins
Received our Lord in Holy Communion
We read about the saints
And chose a name
and the Holy Spirit came in confirmation
Oh I was a Catholic boy
Oh I was a Catholic boy
Remember how we took our spades and went down the garden path
And dug a hole, all three of us, and maybe Mark
The talk was big though we were small
To kill the devil was the plan of all
We had the Truth
From the mouth of God
Then through His church and passed down through the ages
But what did I know?
It was my life
I was just a child and took it all for granted
Oh I was a Catholic boy
Oh I was a Catholic boy
