Come Follow Me
Paul Lisney
Come Follow Me
Along the side of the road I stopped to rest
It was a warm spring day, the flowers at their best
And I lay my head ‘neath the shade of a tree
The greens of the meadow and the soft, gentle breeze
Sent me to sleep, smiling.
To the sounds of laughter, I awoke
With a bounce in their step, they were coming down the road
And I counted twelve men following one
Enjoying each other in the warmth of the sun (Son)
And I looked on wondering
Can it be? No, it can’t be!
Is He the one?
Don’t stare, He’s getting closer
But what if He’s the one
I lowered my eyes as He drew near
My heart beating faster, pounding in my ears
Come follow Me, He said
Come follow me
I Am who you think I Am, don’t be afraid
I lived and I died for you, the road I have paved
Come follow Me
So He offered His hand and brought me to my feet
With the smile in His eyes my shyness was freed
And His friends made me welcome, their voices filled the air
The twelve became twelve thousand, my brother Mark was there
My face ached from smiling
Further down the road we traveled following the Son
Sleeping in the meadow was the long, thin one
Michael, I called, the Master is here
His eyes were opened and up rose a cheer
Come follow Me, He said
Come follow me
I Am who you think I Am, don’t be afraid
I lived and I died for you, the road I have paved
Come follow Me
I woke to the sunset, I was alone
In the distance I saw someone coming down the road
Hey Paul! He shouted, you won’t believe my dream
You were there and so was Mark, and Jesus spoke to me
And we praised Him, smiling
Michael and I praised Him, smiling
