Another experiment with the Reaktor ensemble ‘Metaphysical Function’ this time directly in Reaktor (no DAW) using the recorder box to output direct to AIFF.

I spent some time creating my own sample bank for Metaphysical Function and started with randomized settings. Once I had something promising I started the recorder and then continued to manipulate the patch in real-time trying to evolve the sound.

Metaphysical function utilises a number of oscillators as well as a sampler. The current sample is looped, re-synthesised, played forwards and backwards at different rates and then, finally, blended with the output of the oscillators. The effect of the sample is, therefore, a lot more subtle than I’d expected and I’m still figuring it out.

In fact I’m still figuring out the whole instrument but, in the process, I am having a blast.
