Melancholy Summer
Demo #1 for the 50/90 Song Writing Challenge.
A little late out of the gate, an early summer vacation was sidetracked with a bout of COVID, which kept me from a much desired trip to see some friends and writing… or at least singing. I don’t think this is my best work, and it could use a fair bit more polish, but I’m glad I got some of the frustration out so I can move on.
[VERSE]
Finally out.
On the road.
Driving to the lightning bug glow
Casting the should of the last few years
Windows down
Feeling of free
Singing to the radios endless summer
But why do the songs always end
[CHORUS]
And it feels
Like it might be
another melancholy summer
But is wasn’t suppose to be
another melancholy summer
[VERSE]
Miles tick down
Almost there
Squint into the sunrise glare
When it became clear that everything had changed
End of the road
Before the journeys end
Guess I’m on a different path instead
Of the one I planned on
[BRIDGE]
Some laughs along the way.
Somethings I hold on to
It isn’t a disaster
Just not what I was looking forward to
[CHORUS]
And it feels
Like it might be
another melancholy summer
But is wasn’t suppose to be
another melancholy summer
