the other day I walked away
and said to you my friend
‘everything i thought you were
you’ll not be to me again’

i’ve shed my blood i’ve earned my scars
i was a simple man
but by and by your treachery
has bathed me in your sin

and i know now there are no things
as faulty as your vows
yet through them the world rings hollow
and i am disemboweled

my remaining friends are poisons
as i hearken to the day
that like in you i came
i’ll succumb to them one day
