Dixies Smile
Ellison/Haarer
John has carried this story with him since his early days in college. He worked at a place called “Moore’s Foodland and Laundromat” and delivered groceries and laundry to their customers. One in particular was a woman named Dixie. She had and apartment next door to “Sammy’s Bar and Grill”. John always thought something was strange about Dixie as often he would see women coming from Sammy’s and going to Dixie’s, often followed by men. The light went on for him one day. While making a delivery and standing there with Dixie in the hallway he heard bedsprings squeaking from one of the rooms. Dixie was running a brothel. John now understood why is boss would always give him a wink when she’d say “Today your going to see Dixie”.
I told the story to Carl and he came up with these great lyrics. I imported a recording of him singing with his guitar and layered some fun stuff around it.
