This one was started a couple of years ago – but it needed a substantial bit of rewriting to make it actually singable. It ended up about an elemental nature spirit looking after its minions. However the original inspiration was getting up in the early hours for a pee – but abstracted out to a whimsical sort of tale – hey – you gotta get your inspiration where you can…

birdsong and it sounds like daybreak
they gather at the gate and want to leave me they want to go
And I must hurry down and open up the gate so they can leave me
and hold it so and feel them flow outward and around me as they go

I carry hope and the gift of love and laughter in my arms
I turn the year to start anew
the fields ploughed into furrows on the farms
I paint the sky saphire blue
I move and dance like sunlight on the stream
I drive the tide that beats upon the shores and the land between

Up on the hills, I stretch my arms up high to touch the sun
I chase the wind as it spins
I feel it on my skin and as I run
then catching fire I begin
to shine for every living breathing soul to taste the stars
and catch the silver moonlight in a bowl

They come and go they come and go - wash me clean they wash through me
they come & go they ebb and flow within and through me
within and through me wash me and renew me
flow within and go right through me
