For the RPM Challenge in 2026. I made this in about three weeks using my Deluge groovebox and Minilogue xd polysynth and Typhon monosynth. I did mixing and mastering in Audacity, and cover artwork in Krita (by combining images generated with my p5.js code, plus a photo). My concept was to make a four song EP to tell a story for each of the seasons in a year, using a variety of new sounds and improvisation and refinement to create the arrangements. Getting through the winter with some chill vibes, the spring thaw with transformation and growth, summer storms and a rave with the cicadas, and a beautiful fall colors road trip with family and friends. Then I added a fifth drone-centric track that reflects on endings and new beginnings to round it out to a full album. I wanted to up my mixing and mastering quality this time around, and I think I achieved that—at least on headphones. I might try again at some point to get it to sound good on stereo speakers as well.
The track titles combine to make a poem.
Four Seasons In A Life by Metamere
Winter is long and cold, but there is beauty to find and joy in community, Ice melts as sun rises, bogs thaw, green springs forth as the earth comes alive, Thunderstorms pass through, summer heat wakes cicadas to brings forth revelry, Full colors of fall’s glory beckon a long journey, and the bittersweet conclusion arrives, So mark the year’s end, hope the next will be better, and honor those lost’s memory.
