String laid in the bedpost,
Tug on it with a smile,
String out to the hallway,
Past the evil feline.

To the living room,
That string would wind,
Tied to your ankle,
Answer eveytime.

Rush to my bedside,
See everything was fine.
I stand at a bedside now,
The bed is no longer mine.

Could’ve walked down our street more often.
Could’ve knocked a little harder.
Days I’d drive on by, just look with an eye.
You’re gone yet your shield remains.

Shine light at a stop sign,
See a car goin’ by.
Tap me on the shoulder and say,
Don’t shine it in their eyes.

Tell me “stand in the doorway”.
Do my best to stand tall.
Get out a marker,
Put another tick on the wall.

First time I was two feet tall,
Then I was three,
But after four feet tall,
There’s no ticks left to see.

Could’ve walked down our street more often.
Could’ve knocked a little harder.
Days I’d drive on by, just look with an eye.
You’re gone yet your shield remains.

Could’ve walked down our street more often.
Could’ve knocked a little harder.
Days I’d drive on by, just look with an eye.
You’re gone yet your shield remains.

Saved!
