Between Now and Forever (7_27_2025)
Wickedjohnandthedevil
When the sun sets over high mountains it doesn’t get dark
When the valley cools in in the evening the crinoline bark
Strike a match on the stone hearth flickering light for the fire
I watch the blue ridge violet hue ridge fade in the night
Shadow trees giving alms in the breeze what a primitive sight
The fireflies blink strange polyrhythms in the field by the barn
It’s so hard not to follow suit
And give my life to this strange pursuit
All living things and oh yeah heaven too
Between now and forever
Morning breaks like a cornmeal cake in the bristling cold
No faces crystalline vases with marigolds
I can’t stand how the days have to end it’s a goddamn shame
Someone told me space is a quilt patched over on itsself
Odd triangles planetary jangles you can’t see the edges of it
God folded it and stuffed it in the trunk at the foot of your bed
