After The Storm (Acoustic Demo)
Andrew Russe
Song-writing Demo for FAWM 2022
Song number 11
Written Thursday 17th February 2022
Feels like I’m on the last lap now. Only 3 more needed.
This one came from a suggestion from Mrs R this morning. I didn’t quite fancy it, but gave it a go.
She meant Storm Eunice, which hasn’t actually arrived, there’s still a day to go. We were reading all the dire warnings in the media. Anyway, I didn’t fancy writing a song about it, or storm whoever from two days ago, so I wrote about something else…
(UPDATE: And then everybody thought it was about Eunice anyway LOL….)
After The Storm - A A J Russe
After the storm we raised
All of our trees lie flat
Your flowers all look dazed
After the storm we had
But the garden shed
That has survived so well
It looks none the worse
Still too early to tell
After the storm we’ve had
All our hurts and sores
Our world outside looks so sad
After the storm we have caused
Still that garden shed
It has survived us so well
It looks none the worse
But it’s too early to tell
Still too early to tell
No matter how we played it
No matter what the score
We have to own our outcomes
Share them like before
Pick up the leaves and branches
Broken pots and stems
Clear the way to start again
After the storm has passed
And we begin to heal
Can we forgive at last
And make forgiveness real
And that garden shed
That has survived so well
Can it still shelter us
If we want
It will
If we want it to
It will

I can't help but comment again! This is fabulous!!! Love how it came about - thank you Mrs. R.
It’s a keeper! You are making lemonade out of lemons. My friend Roger Harris (oldfolks2) from Portsmouth sent me a video of the Eunice destruction. Your song captures the essence.
Wow this is great! My husband and I have been listening and both agree!! Excellent..lovely melody and your vocals so beautiful. You are nearing the finish and still lots of time.
