I caught the flu but who knew it wasn’t terminal
lie in bed and drink oj and sleep for hours
I caught a fish and threw it hard onto the ground
then cut my foot on a broken glass bottle
went to college and drank away my degree
dated a girl and another and another and another
but one too many all of my luck ran out
now I’m a dad and there are things you can’t ignore

so far everything’s righteous
haven’t got much to complain about
so many god awful choices
but I’ve still got my health
so far so good well so? so what

I stepped on the cat and it screamed out my name
visited the islands so very very far away
met the old president but he had nothing to say
the new one was also there before he’d won anything
joined the army to be all that I could be
and traveled the country spreading that disease
and I finally got married to the girl of my dreams
and we’re both growing old in our house made of cheese
