The 1916 Rebellion was a sad time in Irish history. The public outcry after the execution of the leaders of the rebellion led to the War of Independence resulting in the creation of the Irish Free state in 1922. While Independence was achieved ties to the British Commonwealth remained until 1949 when Ireland was officially declared a Republic. This song considers the predicament and thoughts of the rebel soldiers as they fight and die for Irish freedom.
