Submarine

I guess it’s a metaphor for trying to break through to someone who is emotionally removed…

Submarine:

I could write a book for you to read,
Take it in my car and drive away
Down to you and your submarine.
Your submarine…

Or I could write a song for you to sing,
Put it in a plane and fly away
And land down near your submarine.
Your submarine…

Maybe I could write a poem for you and me,
Take it in a boat and float away
And tie up right beside your submarine.
Your submarine…

Baby, what’s that you’re hiding?
You’re sealing hatches.
You’re prepared to dive.
And all the while I just stand here twisting.

I could paint a picture for you to see
Take it in a boat and row upstream
Away from you and your submarine.
Your submarine…

I could row that boat so far upstream
Until I find a place where I could stay
‘Til you come out of that old submarine.
