I composed this 5 part Hornpipe on my Nyckelharpa, as a wee gift to Nyckelharpa builder Jeff Swann, who brought my first Nyckelharpa over personally, from the South coast of England.
We spent a most enjoyable afternoon playing tunes & discussing the merits of the 3 Nyckelharpor that Jeff brought with him, in the wonderful old kitchen of Coshkib Hill Farm house, at the Ulster Folk & Transport Museum, near Holywood, Co. Down.
This Farm House used to be in the town land of Coshkib, Glenann, in the Glens of Antrim, near Cushendall & was a noted Ceili House.
“This house had a fine reputation as a local ceilidh house - a house noted for informal social occasions of story-telling, conversation, discussion, music-playing and singing.
It was the home of the Hyndman family. In 1900 Dan Hyndman and his wife, Margaret, lived in the house and worked the farm. The last owner was Dan’s son, also called Dan, who died in the early 1950s. He was a well-known fund of traditional stories and folklore and a noted contributor to several folklore collections.”
