Settling in the Pines
Dweeb
SETTLING IN THE PINES (Bohnenberger)
Time going past with
little way of measuring
Sun dropping faster
to the edges of the land
The reckoning
of when it all will end
Uncertain factor
When light becomes the night
The time still flows
As everybody knows
We do those things
no telephone will ring
A wrist is bare
A watch we do not wear
Slow or fast
the future or the past?
We fin’ly realize that there is no emergency
The sun is dropping down until we see it
Settling in the Pines
An unmistaken sign
The marker of the time
We know that we should go back home and have our dinnertime
Our days are filled with
laughing and adventuring
The sun is high and
All the water glistening
From here on high
The world is spread below
But dinnertime is
the thing we do not know
We find a way
To tell the time of day
The secret lies
toward the western skies
We tell the time
by intersecting lines
We judge the day
With such a simple way
We turn our vessel’s bow
back toward the shore
When we see the sun is fin’ly near
Settling in the Pines
An unmistaken sign
The marker of the time
We know we have to go back home and have our dinnertime
When the sun is in the pines
And food is on our mind
We go back home
