Botany for Boys

I belong to an online music community (Macjams.com) and was invited to get involved with this project. I’m a slow worker so it was definitely a challenge. There’s some stuff in this album I am not crazy about, some I’m indifferent about, and some I’m very proud of. Overall, I’m glad I did it and would recommend it to anyone.

I did kind of cheat. All but one of the tracks on this album existed as ~20 second ideas. But all lyrics and additional parts were done in February. For the most part, I had to delete all remnants of the pre-done parts anyway. I wanted to use the RPM challenge to force me to finish the unfinished projects… which, for me, is a bigger undertaking than working on songs in the moment.

The one song that was conceived and completed in February only was “Praying for the End of the World”. I had anticipated my material being 9 tracks of a little over 35 minutes. But I cut from songs here and there and needed an extra track because I was 4 minutes short of the 35 minute target. It also felt like that album needed a good stomper.
