05 Intermission At The Bayou Circus

A strange blend of slide guitar and synth, both new techniques for me this year. This was originally just a way to learn how the synths worked, and was never really intended to be used on the album, but the low synth line ended up catchy enough that I decided to keep it.

It had such an odd feel, different than many of the other songs in this collection that I decided it had to be an intermission piece, and somehow the synths reminded me of a calliope I heard while at a small fair and circus outside of Baton Rouge many years back. Strangely, once I realized this, the slide had to be part of it… I was walking toward a food stand where the calliope was set up and passed a street musician playing slide blues on a lap steel guitar.

He was far better at it than what you hear on this recording.
