A NATION ROCKED TO SLEEP - KAMP KERR
James Michael Taylor
This is from a poem by Cindy Sheehan’s daughter, who’s name I will include here when I remember it. It’s her response to losing her brother in the Iraq war. A much publicised death. I think her name is Carlie.
A NATION ROCKED TO SLEEP
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother, screaming for her son?
Torrential rains of a mother’s weeping never will be done
She calls for her darling but she knows her darling’s gone
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother screaming for her son?
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries
The only thing he will allow himself is long deep sighs
Have you ever heard the sound of a father holding back his cries
Have you ever heard the sound of Taps played at your brother’s grave?
They say that he died so the flag could continue to wave
But I believe he died because they had oil to save
Have you ever heard the sound of Taps, played at your brother’s grave?
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation rocked to sleep?
The leaders just want to keep you numb so the pain won’t be so deep
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation rocked to sleep?
But, if we the people don’t stop them, how many more will weep
Have you ever heard the sound of a nation rocked to sleep
Have you ever heard the sound of a mother…
