CEDRICK Key G Open G tuning (GGDGBD)

He gave me 2 rings. Silver with turquoise insets. That was 1974. We were moving from Oregon to Texas in an old Dodge school bus. Towing the Chevy Van behind it. Unhitched the van when we stopped in Albuquerque to take some hitch hikers into town and I picked him up and took him home. He invited me in and made up some coffee and told me about his life. Meanwhile, Barbara and the kids sat by the highway in the bus wondering what was taking so long.

Albuquerque, ’74. Pulled off the road. Opened the door
I said, “Hop in fellow if you’re needing a ride
You’ve got nothing to fear. I’ve got nothing to hide

I could tell he’d been drinking. He could hardly walk
He dropped thru the door and he started to talk
He looked at his hands and he started to cry
He said, “Nobody cares if I live or die.”

I’m just an Indian. Drunken Indian (2)He said, “I’m Cedrick Allrunner Black Hawk

He said, “I’ve got a son. He’s a football player. Throws it here. Kicks it there.
Hasn’t even got a pony but check his cheeks, you’ll find them boney

And, “ I’ve got a son. He is a doctor. Pick my brain. Pick my lock. Turn muddy water into liquor
Make me sick. Make me sick. Her daddy was a Choctaw warrior
Let me tell you how your history books into pieces. One man lives. Another man ceases

Just an Indian. Drunken Indian (2)He said, “I’m Cedrick Allrunner Black Hawk

“Picture that. Picture this. Try to walk. Try to piss.
Try to stand. Try to move. I got nothing left to prove
Served my country served her fine. Spilled my bold out on the line.
I watched it run and I watched it curdle.
I’m the brother of the moon. I’m the son of a turtle.

Pour the water in the pot. Set it up. Burn it hot
Pour the coffee in the water. Guadalcanal was quite a slaughter
German army try to hear. Stick my tongue down in their ear
I kill the Jap. I kill the deer. I’m so drunk I got no fear

I’m just an Indian. Drunken Indian (2)He said, “I’m Cedrick Allrunner Black Hawk

Jenni Mansfield Peal I really like that song. Raw and heartbreaking.

No bs Lyle Lovette? It’s got a cool groove. Kind of reminds me of Ray Wylie or James McMurtry style. Dana Deathridge

...there’s something about Cedrich the Indian that I can’t get enough of. Very dynamic and unexpected. I love when you come in out of know where w the vocals. Dana Deathridge
