COLD LIZARD 2007 - DON'T
James Michael Taylor
COLD LIZARD
There’s a lizard, crawls out on the porch
Hops up on this wagon wheel hub, suns himself
Then, the other day a cloud came over
You know, lizards are cold-blooded
And this wasn’t just any cloud
This was like darkness
There’s a lizard, crawls out on the porch
Hops up on this wagon wheel hub, suns himself
Then, the other day a cloud came over
Well, he couldn’t move
He was stuck there
And he’s still stuck there
You can’t let the lizard just lay there and die
There’s a lizard, crawls out on the porch
Hops up on this wagon wheel hub, suns himself
Then, the other day a cloud came over
Stiff as a rock
So I go and I get myself a white athletic sock
So, I put him in the sock
Put him in my underwear drawer
And I figure, if he thaws out, fine
Well, I’ve done the best I can do
And you can only do so much
An after you do…
There’s a lizard, crawls out on the porch
Hops up on this wagon wheel hub, suns himself
Then, the other day a cloud came over
That reminds me of when I was at the prison farm in Kansas
This guy named Riley found a snake by the path
on a very cold day and the snake was too cold to move
So, he took the snake into the sleeping bay
The snake thawed out and when he returned, it was gone
So, we spent some time out in front of the house
And Sargent Thatcher, walking back and forth, said
“Alright, we’re going to find out what’s going on here.”
What happened was, this guy, Lance, he was in for murder,
He found the snake in his bed and he thought someone
Put it there to scare him.
Sergeant Thatcher, he just goes back and forth and he
looks us in the eye, and at one point he says,
“Riley, come with me.”
He went, talked with Riley, and he was crying when he came back out
And we all understood it was an honest mistake
“It was an honest mistake.”
There’s a lizard, crawls out on the porch
Hops up on this wagon wheel hub, suns himself
Then, the other day a cloud came over
