OKIE DOKIE

Well, you call me an Okie. That’s okay with me
Okie dokie, I’m an Okie
I was born in Oklahoma. Out where the dirt is red
Hang out them brand new bed sheets
They’ll be pink when you put ’em on your bed
Yes, I was raised in Oklahoma, out where the dust blows free
Where a twister will do a dance, give a town a chance
To become a part of History

My daddy worked on the rail road
And one day he was out on one of those push carts
You know, you push and you pull and you push and you pull
So, they look on up the rail there
And they see this bog old train coming at ‘em
And they’re thinkin’,
“Well, we don’t have a lot of time to do something.
So, they just hopped off and they just kept on running

…and Papa said, “Mama, grab the babies.
I’ll grab the dog and cat.”
We gotta beat the neighbors to the cellar
While we all got room to sat
And, Tiny, grab the water.
We’re always needing that”
Cool…

You call me an Okie. That’s okay with me
Okie Dokie, I’m an Okie (2)

I was born in Oklahoma. We pump crude from an ancient sea
Where the wind will grab your hat. You’ll laugh at that
But you just watch and you’ll agree
“Oh, there it went.”

You call me an Okie. That’s okay with me
Okie Dokie, I’m an Okie

Now, Kansas got the hoosiers, California, the prune picker
And Texas got those Texans. Hey!, I’m not one to bicker
And I’m not into bragging, but I think we’ll ask agree
Oklahoma is okay

You call me an Okie. That’s okay with me
Okie Dokie, I’m an Okie…
