POTTER’S FIELD KEY Em Capo @ 3

Em……..(hold) Figure 1 is C G Am Em, Figure 2 is A A Em Em

F 1 - You might as well take me out and stand me up against the wall
F 1 - I don’t want no bandanna, no cigarettes to ease the fall
F 2 - No bandanna, no last cigarette to ease the fall
F 1 - When the bullets hit my body I know how I will feel
F 1 - Since the night you said “Goode-bye” the shots to my heart have been too real
F 2 - Your lies, like snipers bullets, the wounds each day prove that I can still feel
F 2 - I’m a dead man walking into a POTTER’S FIELD
F 1 - And I’ve dumped your boy friend’s body in a habitat of crows
F 1 - A gathering of vultures will not let his body decompose
F 2 - One more minstrel who will never decompose
F 1 - And there will be no gravestone for the thief whose wounds will never heal
F 1 - For his flesh, a putrid liquid, from the heavens will be spilled
F 2 - Like rain from the heavens, his remains will be expelled
F 2 - And vulture shit will rain down on POTTER’S FIELD
F 1 - So I will meet you at a place I will reveal
F 1 - And I’ll put my hands on you and once more you will be real
F 2 - I’ll touch your body and that’s the last thing I will feel
F 2 - And they’ll find me standing over you in the POTTER’S FIELD
F 1 - They’ll find me at your grave, they’ll see the fire, I’ll stand alone
F 1 - They’ll see me there. They’ll see me raise my gun. They’ll raise their own.
F 2 - I’ll go down fighting, fighting for breath
F 1 - And once I draw their fire I’ll know our destiny is sealed
F 1 - And when I raise you up we will be reconciled
F 2 - Two birds with one stone. So the plot is revealed
F 2 - The two of us writhing in a POTTER’S FIELD

Walk up from E to G

G Call it opinions, call it the news
Em Call the reporters, dissect the views
C Call in the sound man, call in the lights.
G Call in the makeup and draw on some eyes.
G The sound of laments, “Oh, isn’t it sad!”
Em “Such a beautiful girl! Such a unfortunate lad!”
C And the vultures will circle the facts they won’t square
G About the fire in the night and the rinse in her hair
G And the music that’s left from the man who went mad
Em He lost his composure, it’s all there on the pad
C The pages of mumbles, the CDs of howls
G And the beds are all made up with washcloths and towels
G And the ring in the bath tub and the hair on the floor
Em And the drip in the sink that he chose to ignore
C And what are you doing? Why do you stare?
G Do you think this is your story? Am I beating you there?
G Do you think you are better as you look down your nose?
Em As you stand by the grave with your one wilted rose
C And the words that you say, you don’t claim that you wrote.
G It’s the other man’s story but you’ve learned to emote
G It’s the hicks and hillbillies that trod the low wage
Em With their heartbreaking nights and their backbreaking days
C They just lack education. If they only could read
G They’d rise above their raisin’. They’d have all that they need

G But the vultures still circle though they’re lacking the facts
Em They just find the hot spot, swoop down and relax/ATTACK
C And they don’t care if you’re dead. They don’t care if you’re alive
G If you’ll just lie still they will peck out your eyes
Back to Figure 1
I’m out here in POTTER’S FIELD.
She was young and blond and pretty
And the lover he was too.
Such a tragedy
There’s not much left.
It’s all been cleaned up.
Everybody’s gone
Back to you.

Did you get that?
Well, bring the truck around…

We gotta get that antenna down…
They say we’re in for some rain.
