ROCKING CHAIR 021409

ROCKING CHAIR
Well, I got one on the porch and I got one in the den
And just enough umph for the condition I’m in
I sit myself down and close my tired eyes
And I lean back. Go for a ride. “Rocking chair.”
I rock off to sleep and I dream of a time
When the kids were still kids and a Coke was a dime
And gas was, like, 29 cents at the most
I’d take the car outta gear and just let her coast
When the baby was crying and the night was so long
I’d soothe that sweet child with a rock-a-bye song
Rocking chair. My rocking chair.
And now I’m careful as careful as careful can be
The babies asleep and you rocking me
Well, the babies are grown now and the night is so long
I sit myself down. Sing a rock-a-bye song
Well, I’m too old to rock and too tired to roll
Just try to keep up with that song in my soul
S it myself down in my old rocking chair
Let it do the work. I just sit here

One day Connie Ramsey called and said she was writing a song about a rocking chair. “Great idea!” I said, and sat down and wrote myself one.
So lovely, soothing, and poignant! <3 Candy Davis
Well, that may be so, but you've still got it.
