THAT SAME OLD LIZARD
James Michael Taylor
They stuck me in a room with air in good condition
And a two-piece box of Kentucky Fried Chicken
I even ate the biscuit that came with the deal
I didn’t like it but I ate it
Just to see how it would feel
Just to see how it would feel
I drove back down our alley
Same old door. That same old lizard
Nothing ever changes, really
Nothing ever changes when you’re
looking with your heart
Time was never very good at
keeping memories apart
Just a mile out of town (Abilene, Texas)
The world has stood still
It keeps reaching but it’s failing
And I hope it always will
I’ve been thinking ‘bout some stories I’ve heard
You can argue all you want but
Time will have the last word
Time will have the last word…

ALBUM - HOLDINGS OF THE HEART
Red Desert Penitentiary had it’s American debut
at the Paramount theater one evening in the
summer of 1985 in Abilene, Texas. I dressed like a homeless person
and loitered across the street watching the people arrive.
Now, that was many years ago and so many involved are gone. Probably, that lizard, too.
