The Brighter Candle

The brighter candle knows the truth
In golden glow of brightest sun
And knows there’s no eternal youth
The brighter candle

So many, walking, go nowhere
On bikes and skates with silver hair
It’s like a dream she once was here
A brighter candle

And though you pay your debt of admiration
You know your tears won’t wash the hurt away
And all your heady talk of inspiration
All adds up to one more lonely day

We all know one, two or three
And we all share the memories
We bow our head and bend our knee
