Drinking with Robert Pollard
johnsorc
I wrote a letter
To my songwritting hero
the myth the legend
Mr. Robert Pollard
Now I’m in a bar
In Dayton Ohio
And there’s Mr. Pollard
With a beer in hand
I walk on over
And offer to buy a round
He takes me up on my offer
the beer is flowing
Gleeful camraderie
His mind is full of machinations
And I’m close to knowing
the secrets Of his wisdom
And now here I am
In a Dayton bar
With a cold one
I’m drinking with Robert Pollard
And now here we are
In a Dayton Bar
He’s got a wicked grin
The crowd is getting thin,
He knows another place
Where we can drink all night
I guess it’s all right
I’m drinking with Robert Pollard
Back to his basement
With a portastudio
I guess it’s all right
I’m drinking with Robert Pollard
He says we’ll make an album
Or maybe two or three
What the night dictates
This could be the end of me
The man’s a wrecking ball
Pulls out a suitcase
Sings about urban sprawl
Some forgotten army base
Then the morning comes
We part ways amicably
Says we’ll be in touch
That he’ll get back to me
The record’s golden
It’s my greatest hit
I should stop dreaming
And just get down to it
Oh yeah there I was
In a Dayton bar
With a cold one
Drinking with Robert Pollard
And now here I am
In a basement studio
Recording demos
That nobody will ever know
But in my mind (I’m drinking with Robert Pollard)
Yeah in my mind (I’m drinking with Robert Pollard)
