The Fire Going Out

The last wood of the season burning
Another winter - see you on the other side
After everything has died

The last leaves of the season falling
Soon the air will be filled with dark and doubt
And the fire’s going out

The last night of the season fading
The only light from the embers on the ground
Winter closes in around

Taking turns just turning and turning
Or will we both just turn away
And ask the question with a tiny shred of doubt

Is the fire going out?
